Podcasts are gaining momentum
Podcasts have been around for quite a while. In fact, they have been around since the early 2000s. However, recently they gained a real momentum and a resurgence. This resurgence has seen a huge inflow of both users and venture capitalists in the last 12 months.

We can see a huge spike in the investments in the podcasting industry in 2017 with early stage companies big winners.
Here are some of the major investments that took place in 2017 in the podcast sector.
- Acast, which is a Stockholm-based company, managed to attract $19.5 million in funding in September 2017. It is an audio-on-demand and podcast platform that offers hosting, monetization, and analytics for podcasters.
- Anchor raised the total funding amount of $14.4 million. An emerging podcast app allows the users to record and create podcasts from their cell phone.
- Gimlet Media, which produce popular pieces of content on business and startups, raised $20 million.
- Art 19, which is a platform that offers tools for distribution, hosting, and monetization of podcasts, attracted $7.5 million in investment.
- Castbox, an award-winning podcast platform, raised $12.8 million.
- Other companies, such as Podible, Breaker, Pippa, First Look Media, Otto Radio, and so on also got funding from VCs.
This trend has continued into 2018 with companies like Wondery leading the way with significant investment rounds.
